Human-IST and the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) invites applications for a social scientist specialized in technology studies with a focus on digital technologies (STS, digital anthropology/sociology or related field). We seek a highly motivated applicant to join the new interdisciplinary master’s program “Digital Society” at the position of senior researcher and lecturer (maitre-assistant.e (F), oberassistent.in (D). The appointment is for a fixed-term position for a period of 4 years, with the possibility of renewal thereafter, subject to the availability of funding.
This new study program, expected to start in Fall 2023, addresses the social dimensions and implications of digital technology in contemporary societies. The program combines different domains of social sciences with computer science, media studies, law and more.
The appointee will teach an introduction lecture to STS and a research methodology seminar each year. She/he will be responsible for mentoring students (student adviser). Together with the steering committee, she/he will also contribute to administrative tasks and help promote and develop the program. She/he will independently pursue her/his research agenda and develop new collaborations while in Fribourg.
Candidates must have a PhD in social sciences (such as sociology, anthropology, media studies, history or related field) with a strong STS approach applied to digital technologies. She/he must have teaching and mentoring experience and a record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Experience in academic administration is highly desirable. English is the teaching language of the program, and thus we expect candidates to speak and write fluently in English. Furthermore, English publications are desirable. The University of Fribourg is a bilingual University and therefore, a passive knowledge of German and/or French is a plus.
